Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer- Vehicles
Reports To: Engineering Manager / R&D Manager

1.
Job Purpose
To design, develop, analyze, and improve mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for commercial and military vehicles, including armored vehicles and specialized vehicle platforms.
The role involves preparing detailed engineering drawings and 3D models, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, manufacturing requirements, and project objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design and Development
• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for military, commercial, and specialized vehicles.
• Prepare 3D models, 2D engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings using CAD software.
• Design vehicle structures, mounting brackets, frames, supports, enclosures, and mechanical interfaces.
• Support the integration of vehicle systems, including suspension, powertrain, steering, braking, and auxiliary equipment.
• Develop mechanical solutions for vehicle armoring, protection systems, and specialized body structures.
• Review existing vehicle designs and recommend modifications to improve performance, durability, safety, and maintainability.
Engineering Analysis and Validation
• Perform mechanical calculations, dimensional analysis, tolerance studies, and material selection.
• Conduct or support structural analysis, stress analysis, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA), where applicable.
• Evaluate design feasibility, weight optimization, structural integrity, and manufacturability.
• Support prototype development, fitment checks, testing, and design verification.
• Investigate mechanical design issues and implement corrective actions.
Manufacturing and Production Support
• Coordinate with fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, and quality control teams to ensure designs are suitable for production.
• Provide technical clarification and engineering support during manufacturing and vehicle assembly.
• Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Review manufacturing feedback and incorporate approved design changes.
• Ensure drawings include appropriate dimensions, tolerances, materials, surface finishes, and welding details where required.
Quality, Compliance, and Documentation
• Ensure designs comply with approved project specifications, applicable engineering standards, and customer requirements.
• Maintain accurate design records, revision histories, and engineering change documentation.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical meetings.
• Support quality investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions.
• Protect confidential engineering data and comply with applicable security requirements for defense-related projects.

Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Typically 3- 7 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, automotive engineering, vehicle development, or industrial manufacturing.
• Experience in vehicle structures, chassis, body design, mechanical assemblies, or specialized vehicle modifications is preferred.
• Experience in military vehicles, vehicle armoring, or defense manufacturing is an advantage.
• Fresh graduates with strong CAD skills and relevant projects may be considered for junior-level positions.

Technical Skills
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, or Autodesk Inventor.
• Ability to prepare accurate 2D engineering and manufacturing drawings.
• Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), engineering tolerances, and fitment requirements.
• Understanding of mechanical materials, manufacturing processes, welding, machining, and fabrication methods.
• Knowledge of vehicle chassis, suspension, powertrain, and automotive mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with FEA tools and structural simulation is an advantage.
• Ability to prepare BOMs, technical reports, and engineering change documentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

• May require visits to workshops, production areas, testing facilities, and project sites.
• Must comply with company safety procedures, quality requirements, and applicable defense-sector confidentiality regulations.

Authority and Accountability
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the technical accuracy of assigned designs and drawings, timely completion of engineering deliverables, and compliance with approved specifications.
Design approvals, engineering changes, and release of production drawings shall follow the company's established authorization procedures.
